  2. As for the safety of the baby parents should be aware of the surrounding really anything. This family life was enter by someone who wasn't suppose to be there and could have been watching there home why they wasn't there allowing the intruder access at anytime. This could've been a murder, rapist, kidnapper etc. that was threatening to this family lives. In this problem they could track down and see where the signal is really coming from just like how you track DNA evidence but different. So for anyone has these should be aware and high protective of there property and wireless settings.

I believe that this was a situation that could have happened to anyone. It is true that parents should have taken every precaution necessary, but like most people they never imagined this could happen. In forensics, many difficult situations arise where a result has to come up. This means that this problem could have the potential to be resolved. There has to be a way to stop hackings of this sort, especially in something so important as a baby monitor. Hackers need to be brought to justice somehow.

I believe that people should be more on the lookout on things like this. Certain objects that involve technology, hackers can easily get a hold of it and hijack anything. This is a problem towards the techno world and people should be more aware about their technology. Investigators should bring more hackers to justice. hackers are out there and we all should be careful.

I partially agree with you. Because not all hackers are harmful. Some actually do good by helping the FBI figure out personal information of well-known criminals, or even decoding messages that could be harmful to a lot of citizens.

I couldn't agree with you anymore! Hijackers are everywhere. If there is anything that can be hacked. They will hack it and not think twice. Hijackers need to be brought to justice somehow.

There are a lot of dangerous people in the world. They are taking advantage of the technology we upgrade so rapidly. The hacker was good example. This was an invasion of privacy, but without problems there are no solutions. We need to be aware what we buy ,and how we use it. Keep your password secure and your belonging locked an well protected.

i agree with you completly. We should always keep our passwords and emails secure and locked up tight. The danger comes from the person knowing their information, like where they live and what doors anda windows they leave unlocked. Knowing anyone can hack into my stuff scares me senseless.

In today's day and time, the rapid technology increase has allowed creeps and weirdos into our own homes without even walking through the door of our homes. With all the different technology pieces, one has to take the necessary precautions to protect their identity and the privacy of their own home. While someone has to hack a camera, people (particularly young people) are allowing people to see right into their lives and know their every move thanks to social media. Keep this in mind when posting on social media tonight.

When thinking about uploading a picture to the internet or a social media site, one does not think of the dangers and the precausions one should take before posting online. Anyone could hack into your account or in this case, into your baby camera at your house. Hackers have became very skilled in the way they hack and how easy it is to get into someones account and be able to see what one does throughout their daily lives. Making sure your information and identity is secure is becoming a necessity. Before you upload your next picture, think about this case; it may change everything.

    1. I totally agree with you, people do need to think about things before they put it on the internet. Its a scary thought to have some random stranger watch you or your child sleeping. People need to be sure they have different passwords for everything.

By looking at this we should all know how to be very careful of what put out there and make sure that all of our wireless networks or anything to do with your personal life, we should make sure its surely secured. We should more caution of our surroundings too cause you never know who watching and what there planning to do

I think baby monitors shouldn't beproduced unless the manufacturer find and patch every entry way that a hacker could access. Referencing to this news report any experienced hacker can hack a baby monitor. Which means watching somebody's baby sleep, their activities while in the crib, and also accessing some of your personal information. Any individual that has time out of their day to spy on somebody else's baby is sick and needs help. I don't know how much this pertains to forensics as much as it pertains to our everyday lives.

    1. I do agree with the fact that the manufacturers of digital baby monitors should find a way to prevent this type of hacking from ever happening. I mean it is something that should be taken more seriously by everyone, not just to the parents the situation happened to.

This is very shocking to me, to know anyone can just hack into your things and than watch you without you knowing it. I have a nephew of only 2 years and i couldn't imagine how scared that family must have been to know someone was watching the family and their house. If we could somehow put more securtiy on our things, incidents of this sort would never happen. It isn't the parents fault but they should make sure their house is secure (windows and doors locked, etc..). Always be careful who you give your passwords to or even your devices, hackers are everrywhere and it can happen to every one.

I think it's ridiculous that someone would spy on someone's baby through a baby monitor. Yet, people should also be more careful with what they buy, especially when it pertains to a baby. And the makers should also be more careful to make their stuff more secure and protected. The citizens should be more careful and put passwords and locks on their technology. All in all, I believe that baby monitors should not be made anymore.

That last statement was a bit extreme, and passwords are of no use when it comes to a real hacker. People can easily get deep enough into your control panel via IP hacking and change passwords, firewalls is what should be implemented into devices this sensitive. granted those can be bypassed as well, they take a more technical approach that most people don't have access to.

Honestly this doesn't shock me at all. People/ hijackers at that have become very skilled with technology and can pretty much hack into anything. This isn't the parents fault but if I were them I would make sure every door and window were secure in the house. I change imagine how these people feel knowing that they have been being watched through their innocent baby's baby monitor.I think that the maker of this baby monitor should have a more secure type monitor maybe have to put in a password or something to make it more secure. Making sure that your information and identity is secure is becoming very necessary in everyday life.

The fact that someone can manipulate everyday technology in someones home so easily is unnerving. The fact that we as a society use technology for so much in our everyday lives makes us so vulnerable to people like this person. There are so many families that use the same type of device this family used so the fact these people could have been watching without them even knowing has to make them and other families question using those type of monitors. I feel there needs to be some way to make this more secure because a lot of delicate information could be gotten by hackers through such things. Imagine families with security systems hooked to their phones over the internet. Someone could tell when they leave, disable the alarm and rob them blind and they would think having that would be doing the exact opposite.

This was to be expected. Anything with an IP can, and, at some point in time, most likely will be hacked. Unless, of course, you have software preventing that. The thing is that most devices with an IP come with some software preventing hacking pre-installed. Baby cameras... don't. Having something with an IP and no protection software (especially something like.. erhm.. I don't know.. A REMOTE CONTROLLED CAMERA?!) in your home is extremely careless. Granted knowledge that it, in fact, has an IP would be hard to know unless of course it's stated out-right... I mean, who could guess that an IP baby cam would have it's own IP adress. As for forensics this creates tons of problems in security. Unless the cam keeps logs of who uses it, and where they were, catching the perpetrator is next to impossible. Once again, this is a camera we're talking about to the likeliness of that is slim-to-none. And as for citizens, the risk of hacker attacks was always and will always be present, as more and more protection software comes out, more and more ways to get around it show up as well. Not having an IP remote controlled baby cam would help a lot. Again, the possesion of an IP using device with no protection software or client logs is extremely unsafe. While this particular attack was fairly harmless, actually benevolent by educating some people of the dangers of electronics. It was rather pointless, and more of a crude joke. I hope people will learn from this and be smart about what is needed and what is dangerous.

I agree completely. If parents want to be safe they should invest in something like a CCTV system. This keeps from hackers to be able to simply hack your camera through the internet.

Just to think that its possible for someone to invade in the privacy of your on home is sickening. Your home is the place where we're suppose to feel safe, not having to constantly look over our shoulders in the comfort of our homes. To know that it is possible for a hacker to be able to watch your every move through a baby monitor just imagine them being able to hack into other electronics. Technology in this day and time is becoming more assessable and is constantly changing everyday. I feel its not the parents fault it is the manufactures they should be more considerable of the well being of parents and their children of how secure their systems are before they sell them .

    1. Your one hundred percent right. Just the thought of someone looking in on your everyday life is sickening. You have to be careful who you trust. You also have to be careful who you share your personal information with. The reason I say that is because they can spread it jus as fast as a complete stranger.

  15. I believe hacking into baby monitors is unethical and completely wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own privacy. It's absolutely scary to know people can watch and spy on you without your knowledge. With the use of new technology, it has become a lot easier for people to spy on others through anything that has some kind of electrical point. The only way to prevent this from happening is by informing parents of the harms of electronic devices. Parents need to be more cautious when it comes to the devices they use around their children. Cameras, baby monitors, or any other devices that can be hacked into should not be in view of their children. If parents do allow electronic devices around their children, they should get them screened weekly to make sure hackers have not taken over.

  16. To know you cant protect and be aware of whats going on in your home is scary. I think it is sick for someone to hack into a baby monitor. Its suppose to keep your child safe.Waking up to someone yellling at your 10 month daughter is very shocking. You got the camera to monitor to her and people hacking it ccan also monitor. I believe you can prevent ths by making your passwords stronger.

I think the family should have did more research on the cameras before they put them in the room with their baby. I feel that its sad that you cant have full control and be aware that goes on in your house. To have to wake up because someone is spying in on your 10 month old daughter. It has to be someone with a sick mind to spy on a child. I feel they should find out who is this sick individual and press charges on them. The camera company shock do more to make is less easier to hack into someone's house and watch their camera

I don't agree with you there. If you buy a product that is suppose to watch your baby, you will expect it to do it's job and not be wrecked by someone that wants to see what you and/or your baby is doing. I feel like it is a huge invasion of privacy.

I believe that this very dangerous and that baby monitors should be built more securely in a way that hackers can not have that access to look at someone else's child. Not to mention being able to look all through out your house if you have more than one monitor around the house. With that being said they would know all your valuables and know your habits. For example: what time you go to sleep, when you will be in bed, what time you may get up. If they have all this information they could go further than viewing your home and raid your home for its valuables, since they'll know when you'll be gone.

  19. I think that those who made the high tech. baby monitors should redesign them. They should only be available through the parents phone numbers. I also think they should have a hidden virus for hacker, so its harder and more likely not to get through. The fault is not on the parents, but on the hacker for invasion of privacy. Hacker should get put in jail/ prison. People should be more observant of their devices and what electronics they have in their house.

  20. I think that this situation is upsetting and scary at the same time. I also believe that these crimes happen more often than they can be caught, people just aren't aware of it. Using wireless IP-based cameras can be very dangerous. These situations can be hard to avoid due to recent technological advancements. In the future, people will face the problem of keeping thier network secure.

I guess I'm not surprised the devices can be hacked because anything is hackable but I'm shocked that someone would want to hack a baby monitor. That is a complete violation of someone's comfort and security. I know it would infuriate me. I definitely hope that people will take more caution in the future when thinking of passwords like they mentioned because the safety of your children is of utmost importance. Unfortunately it'll be near impossible to have a foolproof method of safety but it can at least help prevent a breach of your home.
